# Documentation Search Tools Use the `search_*` tools to search OneTick documentation by topic or natural language question. Each tool covers a different documentation set; pass a query string and get back the most relevant passages. ## Tool descriptions | MCP Tool | When to use | |--------------------------|-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | `search_python-docs` | Search the onetick-py library API reference. Use when looking up classes, methods, parameters, or return types. | | `search_python-examples` | Search practical onetick-py usage examples. Use when looking for how to accomplish aspecific task with the library. | | `search_cloud_coverage` | Search OneTick Cloud coverage documentation. Use when checking which exchanges, instruments, or data types are available. | | `search_sql-docs` | Search OneTick SQL documentation. Use when constructing SQL queries or looking upSQL syntax and built-in functions. | ## Data source Each `search_*` tool is backed by a named *collection* — a document set indexed from a documentation source. OneTick Cloud users get the bundled collections out of the box (see `Download documentation sources`). For custom deployments, additional collections can be added — see `Custom Search Tools`. | MCP Tool | Collection name | Content | |--------------------------|-------------------|-----------------------------| | `search_python-docs` | `python-docs` | onetick-py library API docs | | `search_python-examples` | `python-examples` | Practical usage examples | | `search_cloud_coverage` | `cloud` | OneTick Cloud coverage docs | | `search_sql-docs` | `sql-docs` | OneTick SQL documentation | The active set of collections is controlled by the `COLLECTIONS` setting — see `Active collections`. ## Active collections The `COLLECTIONS` setting controls which `search_*` tools are registered. The default corresponds to the OneTick documentation sources indexed during the quickstart: ``` COLLECTIONS='["python-docs","python-examples","cloud","sql-docs"]' ``` To disable individual tools, start from the default and remove the collections you don’t need. For example, to disable `sql-docs`: ``` COLLECTIONS='["python-docs","python-examples","cloud"]' ``` To add your own documentation sources, see `Custom Search Tools`.
